What are webrings?

A webring is a group of websites that all link to each other in a loop. Think of it as an internet neighborhood. Webrings are typically displayed on these websites as a widget, commonly supplied with a link to the ring, a previous button, a next button, and sometimes a random button.

Webrings build networks between websites and like-minded people. Most have a theme and their own set of rules, making them unique internet clubs. You can choose to join webrings that reflect your interests, identity, or aesthetic.

For more information on what webrings are, their purposes, and why you should join them, give this a look.

Why I made my own webrings

After hours of browsing webrings and searching for ones to join, I kept running into two issues that constantly broke my surfing momentum:

  1. The rings weren't actively maintained and contained many dead links.
  2. The websites buried their webring widgets in hard-to-find spots or on obscure pages.

Webrings should sustain a smooth flow for anyone browsing through them. Successfully reaching the starting point again after visiting every site makes it feel like a true connected circle—a neighborhood, even.

I've decided to make my own webrings to create that kind of space through consistent moderation and basic rules, while also creating rings around themes I'm personally interested in.
